“Family offices move to an institutional mindset with performance-related pay”

Family Capital, an online publishing company dedicated to the global family enterprise sector, covered our recently co-published 2023 Single Family Office Compensation Report, which drew on responses from 406 single family offices. The article notes that “family offices are hiking performance-related pay to their executives as their exposure to alternatives overhauls traditional assets . . .”.

According to Botoff managing principal Trish Botoff: “The rise in performance-based compensation goes back to the concept of family offices becoming more sophisticated, bringing investment management in-house and wanting to align investment and comp performance.”

Nearly every family office in the Botoff Survey now uses performance incentives to hire and retain professionals, with 81% of executives receiving bonuses in 2022. According to respondents, 54% of their bonuses were similar to 2021, while 32% were higher.
